The major conduits for stakeholder input within the C SERMS Platform reside within the Thematic Working Groups (TWGs), viz.:
- Policy and Regulations,
- Information and Knowledge Management,
- Capacity Building and Research
These thematic areas were identified by the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Project (CREDP), in 2008, as barriers to the expansion, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency across CARICOM. These barriers re-emerged during a Needs Assessment that was conducted for the establishment of the CCREEE in 2014.
A TWG for Technical Assistance is also envisioned and, chaired by the CCREEE, will be established to coordinate the provision of technical assistance and services, to Member States. Two Ad-hoc Working Groups, viz. the Geothermal Working Group, and the Electric Vehicle Working Group, were established to support growing interest and the need to prioritise the establishment of a regional technical support mechanism to provide assistance and expert input toward aspects of geothermal development and clean transport development, respectively. The Ad hoc Working Groups are subsidiaries of the TWG for Technical Assistance.
As part of the requirement for regional ownership that is embedded within the principles of operation of the Platform, the respective TWGs are chaired by the regional entities, viz. CARICOM Secretariat (Policy and Regulations), CCREEE (Information and Knowledge Management), CDB (Finance), and the UWI (Capacity Building and Research). Among the tasks of the TWG Chairs is the responsibility for ensuring that proposed areas of focus suitably align with regional and, where possible, national needs, objectives and strategies.
